The Koyukuk River Culture is a comparative study of selected aspects of the material culture of the Koyukuk Koyukon Athapaskan Indians and the Kobuk and Nunamiut Eskimos who share contiguous areas in interior northern Alaska. Two of the groups — the Koyukuk Athapsakans and the Kobuk Eskimos — live in interior riverine habitats, while the Nunamiut Eskimos live in the mountainous tundra region to their north. Inasmuch as all three were found to share a large number of material traits in common, even though the Nunamiut lived in a quite different ecological niche from the other two, the agents of trade and hostility are Investigated to determine whether or not these might possibly provide explanations for the material cultural similarities shared among these three peoples.
